New Cyprus Museum

The cost of the construction of the new National Museum, which will be implemented on the site of the old Nicosia Hospital, will amount to €144 million.

Construction work is expected to be completed in less than 42 months, around mid-2026.

The museum, with a total area of 30,000 sq.m. (including basements), it will be erected on a plot of 40,000 t.m., in the central area of the old General Hospital.

The work was undertaken by the consortium “Iacovou – Cyfield (M) Joint Venture”, with the contract providing for a maintenance period of two years and provision for negotiation for ten-year maintenance.

The detailed design of the project and the tender documents were prepared by The Architectural Office “Theoni Xanthi XZA Architects” after an architectural competition, under the Coordination of the Department of Public Works.

The premises and services

Apart from its historical and cultural significance, the targeted location of the Museum, in combination with the other landscape works, is expected to further upgrade the already regenerated image of the urban fabric of the municipality of Nicosia.

The New Museum will include permanent exhibition spaces of 5,500 t.m. which will host around 6,500 Antiquities, places of temporary exhibitions of 1,000 T.m., educational program spaces, 2,000 T.m. maintenance workshops, underground parking lots, Antiquities warehouses 5,000 T.m., restaurant, cafeteria, library, auditorium, offices, shop/ art shop and extensive landscaping of exterior spaces.

The landscaping works will also include a public square with a fountain, which will mark and upgrade the new, improved image of the urban center.

The contract also includes restoration/maintenance work on a listed building and the demolition of other existing buildings.
